February 1, 2017LSU commit Stephen Guidry, a 4-star JUCO wide receiver, announced on National Signing Day that he will not be able to sign with the Tigers and will do one more season of JUCO ball.
LSU received some bad news early on National Signing Day from one of its top recruits.
Stephen Guidry announced on Twitter that instead of signing with the Tigers he will have to play one more season at Hinds Community College. Guidry has a 4-star rating and is ranked as the No. 1 JUCO wide receiver in the nation. He committed to LSU in the fall over Georgia, Alabama and a host of others.
“Everybody that was waiting for me to sign I would like to thank each and everyone of you but unfortunately I have to do another semester & play another season at hinds. I will most definitely be a December graduate,” Guidry wrote on Twitter.
The development puts a wrinkle in LSU’s plans to add a top wide receiver. Coach Ed Orgeron and his staff have been pursuing fellow highly touted wideouts Devonta Smith and Nico Collins, but the Tigers likely won’t be able to lure either of them to Baton Rouge.
The only receivers in LSU’s 2017 class are 4-star Mannie Netherly, the No. 42 wideout in the nation, and 3-star Racey McMath, who is rated No. 81 at the position. Both have signed their National Letters of Intent.
After playing another season of JUCO football at Hinds, Guidry will be able to enroll at LSU in January if he’s able to meet the necessary academic requirements. And if he remains committed to the Tigers.
