Shavar Manuel flips to FSU from Florida, spurns Gators on National Signing Day.
February 3, 2016The Florida-Florida State rivalry never sleeps, especially when it comes to National Signing Day.
We’ve seen plenty of recruiting battles between the two Sunshine State rivals over the years – Dalvin Cook, Dante Fowler, Treon Harris, etc. – and on Wednesday, another was added to the history book.
Shavar Manuel, the nation’s No. 10 defensive tackle and No. 84 overall player, flipped his commitment from the Gators to the Seminoles.
FSU also beat out Florida for 5-star defensive end Brian Burns on Wednesday.
There are some definite similarities between Shavar Manuel, the newest Florida State defensive tackle, and Tim Jernigan, a former Florida State defensive tackle. Like Jernigan, Manuel can bully offensive guards, collapsing gaps and cutback lanes, but his pad level and and overall technique will need to improve. He’s quicker off the ball than Jernigan was, though, but he definitely has the strength to be effective on the Seminoles’ defensive line right away.
