Shaq Lawson has declared for the 2016 NFL Draft with a tweet. He sent this message out on Wednesday.
January 13, 2016The Clemson Tigers had an unbelievable season in 2015. They won the ACC title and watched Deshaun Watson break out as one of the nation’s best players.
Dabo Swinney’s Tigers were 14-0 before running into the Alabama Crimson Tide in the national championship game, and had it not been for a surprise onside kick and a breakout performance by tight end O.J. Howard, Clemson might have come out on top.
Unfortunately for Tigers fans, one of their best defensive players won’t be around next year to take another shot at the national championship.
Redshirt junior defensive end Shaq Lawson sent a tweet out on Wednesday, officially entering himself into the 2016 NFL Draft.
“I want to thank Clemson University and Tiger Nation for the BEST 3 years of my life! My childhood dream was to play college football and in the NFL. I want to thank President Clements, and the entire faculty at Clemson who have helped me. I will be coming back to complete my degree,” Lawson said.
“I want to send a special thanks to Coach Swinney, Coach Hobby, and our entire football department for your help and support. We made HISTORY together!”
As he said in his message, Lawson plans on returning to school at some point to complete his degree, but the call of the NFL is often too powerful. And it proved true in Lawson’s case.
He’s a dynamic defensive end who can make plays in the backfield, and there will be plenty of NFL teams trying to call his name at the draft, which begins April 28.
