Take a look at what we’re vibing on in SEC football, including wondering if Hugh Freeze is secretly into the goth scene and which fan base is the most nervous entering the season.

SEVEN DAYS!!! We are only seven days away from SEC football and the time of the year where we stop being nice and start being real with our friends and family that root for other teams. You know, sort of like The Real World, but without a big house and all the hooking up.

I’ve been vibing on some good old-fashioned Nelly lately (shout out, Mizzou!), a nacho lunch with chorizo and an egg sunny side up, and the fact that I will never understand why Matlock isn’t mandatory viewing in every introductory SEC law school course.

It is that time again, so if you want to go and take a ride with me, grab your cooler, ice it down with beverages, and let’s enjoy the last week before football season starts in the latest edition of SEC Football Vibes.

    –  Let’s get straight to the weirdness: what in Archie Manning’s name was Hugh Freeze  thinking with the whole “creating his funeral” thing? One, it is just plain creepy. Two, you can get the point of wanting to leave behind a legacy without going to the lengths he did. Is Freeze actually into the goth scene and just wanting to show his dark side for once? I’m happy I wasn’t in that meeting room.

    –  If the Auburn quarterback battle isn’t solved within the next few days, I’m going to see if I can enroll late and show off my arm. Is Gus Malzahn just playing games with my heart (hat tip to the Backstreet Boys) and Clemson’s braintrust? Hey, what if the Tigers put all three guys – John Franklin III, Sean White, and Jeremy Johnson – on the field for the first play next Saturday. That would be awesome!

    –  I’m going to try and make it to each SEC alumni chapter bar here in Chicago for at least one game this season. So, if you read this and regularly visit your local watering hole, let me know and I will show up for a shot of Fireball and plenty of beers while we celebrate our great conference.

    –  Which fan base do you think is the most nervous heading into the season? Many cases could be made, but it has to be Tennessee, right? After all the offseason talk, it is time for the action to begin. I bet many Big Orange fans will have sleepless nights over the next few weeks.

    –  Next Thursday, ESPN viewers will be waiting for some SEC football to finally arrive on their television sets when the South Carolina/Vanderbilt game will eventually appear to much hate. I hope some of you get the SEC Network for the Tennessee-App State game. Otherwise, that is going to be a long first night of ugly football.

    –  Is anyone really surprised by the news that Steve Spurrier hardly wore a shirt around the Florida football office and used to have someone record him doing pushups to send to his wife? Let Spurrier never disappear from our lives.

    –  Finally, let’s all take a deep breath before the four months of mayhem beings……………………………………………………feel better? Good! S-E-C! S-E-C! S-E-C!
