Many joked that Tennessee had Texas A&M right where it wanted it after the Aggies took a 21-point lead Saturday. Then the Vols did what they do best and rallied from the deficit, forcing overtime and getting themselves into another SEC thriller.
Texas A&M became the first team to survive a Tennessee surge, though, winning 45-38 in double OT to keep its spot behind only Alabama in the SEC rankings. The Vols now have to get ready to face the Crimson Tide next week.
Speaking of Alabama, it passed its road test against Arkansas with a 19-point win. Here’s a look at the rest of the SEC heading into Week 7.
Lost to Kentucky, 20-13. Derek Mason’s team drops to 2-4 and 0-3 in the SEC. It plays at Georgia next week.
Beat Vanderbilt, 20-13, and has won three of its last four. The Wildcats also improved to 2-2 in SEC play and will get a week off before hosting Mississippi State.
Lost to Auburn, 38-14. The Bulldogs looked completely outmatched while falling to 2-3. They’ll step out of conference play next week to face BYU, which won at Michigan State this week.
Lost to Georgia, 28-14, on Sunday afternoon in a game delayed a day because of Hurricane Matthew. The Gamecocks have lost three in a row.
The 2-3 Tigers had the week off before having to visit Florida on Saturday. Missouri’s only wins have come against Eastern Michigan and Delaware State.
LSU and Florida are still trying to work out a makeup date for Saturday’s showdown that was postponed because of Hurricane Matthew. The Tigers are scheduled to face Southern Miss next week.
Beat Mississippi State, 38-14, for its third straight win. The Tigers have rebounded from their 1-2 start, and for the moment helped cool the seat of coach Gus Malzahn.
Lost 49-30 to Alabama at home. The Razorbacks have lost by a combined 40 points to Texas A&M and the Crimson Tide. They have another tough one with Ole Miss next week.
A makeup date has yet to be scheduled for Saturday’s contest with LSU that was postponed because of Hurricane Matthew after the Gators refused to play it in Baton Rouge. Florida faces Missouri next week.
Beat South Carolina, 28-14, on Sunday in a game that was postponed to Sunday afternoon because of Hurricane Matthew. The Bulldogs snapped a two-game losing streak.
Had the week off after beating Memphis, 48-28, last week. The 3-2 Rebels have a tough road contest with Arkansas next week.
Couldn’t finish another comeback and lost 45-38 in double overtime at Texas A&M. The Vols suffered their first defeat and will have to bounce back quickly with Alabama visiting next week.
Staved off Tennessee’s comeback attempt with the double-overtime win over Tennessee. The Aggies moved to 6-0 and get a week off before a showdown with Alabama on the road.
A 21-point second quarter was the key to a 49-30 win at Arkansas. The Crimson Tide’s next three games: At Tennessee, vs. Texas A&M, at LSU.
