With the SEC Championship Game next up, Jim McElwain discussed Florida-Alabama ahead of the showdown in Atlanta.
November 30, 2015The Southeastern Conference championship matchup is set between the Florida Gators and Alabama Crimson Tide. The Gators will have their hands full with the Tide, who appear to be rolling towards a second straight College Football Playoff berth.
Nick Saban is no stranger to games of this magnitude, as he’s had the Crimson Tide performing at a high level for a long time now.
His opponent, though not a stranger, is getting his first taste of the SEC Championship Game as a head coach. Jim McElwain is the first SEC East coach to lead his team to the title game in his first year. The last time Florida played in Atlanta, McElwain happened to be on the other sideline coaching Alabama’s offense in a 32-13 route by the Crimson Tide.
His team has certainly had some ups and downs, and McElwain discussed the game in his Monday press conference.
Here’s what he had to say:
“It’s the way it should be — Florida-Alabama for SEC championship.”
“These Florida Gators belong in this game.”
“Quarterback run has hurt these guys.”
“It’s fascinating to see them work.”
“Hopefully we’re not just a speed bump on the road.”
“You learn from it, you don’t dwell on it.”
“It’s going to be hard to keep him out of this game.”
“We’re going to go with a mindset that we’re going to do our jobs in this game.”
“Let’s reflect on where some people thought they would be.”
“Now we’re getting ready for something I’m not sure anyone expected – the Florida Gators playing for an SEC championship.”
