San Diego State vs. Nevada prediction and online live stream information for Friday's Mountain West Tournament semifinal matchup between the Aztecs and Wolfpack.
March 11, 2016The No. 1 seed San Diego State Aztecs will battle the No. 5 Nevada Wolf Pack on Friday in the semifinals of the Mountain West Tournament in Las Vegas.
The Aztecs (24-8, 16-2 MW) advanced to the semifinals with a 71-65 win over Utah State Thursday night. It was a close game throughout, but San Diego State drained seven of eight free throws in the final minute to seal the win. Each team shot 30 free throws and didn’t shoot particularly well from the field, but the Aztecs’ 40 percent clip from deep was key. Trey Kell led all scorers with 17 points, while Malik Pope and Winston Shepard finished with 15 and 12 respectively.
The Wolf Pack (19-12, 10-8 MW) edged out the New Mexico Lobos in the final seconds to advance to the Mountain West semifinals. The Lobos had a chance to win on its final possession, but Cameron Oliver swatted away Cullen Neal’s three-point attempt. Nevada held the edge in rebounds and in the turnover battle as it was plus-three in both categories. Oliver had a career-game in the quarterfinals as he posted a 26-point, 15-rebound and 4-block stat line to lead the Wolf Pack. The win over New Mexico was Nevada’s first in the Mountain West Tournament in four trips.
The Wolf Pack hopes to even the season series after the Aztecs took the only meeting this season, 57-54, back on Jan. 26.
Below is everything you need to know about the matchup, including the San Diego State vs. Nevada prediction, online live stream, and game notes.
If the Wolf Pack has a chance to upset the top team in the conference, it’s going to need another big-time performance from Cameron Oliver. But is he up for the challenge?
Oliver is going to be priority for the Aztecs on both ends of the floor. Expect them to shut him down offensively, not allowing any easy looks. At the other end, San Diego State will look to avoid Oliver’s rim protection, but it will need to have more success with its outside shooting than it had in the quarterfinals. With Oliver neutralized and the ball finding the bottom of the net, the Aztecs advance to the conference semifinal, again.
