    Why You Need To Care

With suspensions to arrests to poor play, Rutgers is having a rough time after starting out the season with the win over Norfolk State. The fight in a loss to Washington State was followed up by the benching of head coach Kyle Flood and the dead-team-walking loss at Penn State. With Michigan State coming up next, a road game at Indiana, and then Ohio State, at Wisconsin, and at Michigan, it’s uh-oh time.

Kansas is a work in progress. Everyone knows what the deal is and everyone knows this is nothing more than a filler year to see what the program has going forward, but it would still be nice if head coach David Beaty could come up with one nice moment to build the program around – or at least give him a talking point.

    Why Kansas Will Win

Kansas needs all the help it can get to pull off the win, and it’ll get it with several mistakes and takeaways coming from the Rutgers team happy to give them up. With three giveaways in each of the last two games, and a -5 turnover margin, the Scarlet Knights haven’t been making things easy. For all of KU’s problems, the ground game has been solid out of the gate, and it should be able to run a bit, take advantage of a few key mistakes, and be right in a position to be there in the end.

    Why Rutgers Will Win

The Jayhawk defense hasn’t even been remotely close to coming up with a key stop. South Dakota State threw for three scores, while Memphis did whatever it wanted to, with Paxton Lynch completing 22-of-25 passes for 354 yards and two touchdowns. If Rutgers can be focused offensively, the passing game should be able to click, and the ground attack should have its best game of the year with lots and lots of wide open spaces against a porous Jayhawk defensive front that’s doing next to nothing in the backfield.

    Player Who Matters

Kansas has found something in running back Ke’aun Kinner, a JUCO transfer who has turned into the one big positive so far running for 157 yards and two touchdowns against South Dakota State and taking off for 113 yards on just 16 carries against Memphis. At 5-9 and 186 pounds he’s not all that big, but he can move.

    What’s Going To Happen?

This should be a good game between two teams at around the same level right now. The Kansas defense, though, won’t have a shot of stopping Rutgers as the game goes on, falling in the fourth quarter of a tight battle.
