April 2, 2017Georgia transfer Juwuan Briscoe has a new home. The cornerback has committed to Rutgers.
Rutgers found life to be quite difficult last season in the Big Ten East division.
Chris Ash’s Scarlet Knights went 2-10 in 2016, including shutout blowout losses to Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State. If they have any designs on getting to a bowl game out of the rugged Big Ten any time soon, Ash needs to increase the talent base across the board.
The Scarlet Knights received some help on Saturday night, as Georgia transfer and former three-star recruit Juwuan Briscoe committed to the school. The 5-foot-11, 192-pound cornerback had been with the Bulldogs the past two seasons.
The Maryland native played in nine games for Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs last season, making four starts. His playing time tailed off toward the end of the year, but he still finished with 16 tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles. Deandre Baker and Malkom Parrish are the likely starters for the Bulldogs at cornerback spots this season, with Tyrique McGhee getting a look at nickel back. UGA cornerback Rico McGraw announced in late January that he was transferring to Murray State.
Briscoe decided to leave Athens back in December, but it wasn’t until Saturday night that he made his final decision. Briscoe has to sit out the 2017 season, as he won’t be eligible to play until 2018 due to NCAA transfer rules. But he’ll be a nice addition to a program that has to compete with the likes of Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State on an annual basis in the Big Ten East.
