Rudy Ruettiger, who is best known as Notre Dame’s Rudy, had his football helmet and jersey sold for $241,500 on Saturday.

The man best known for inspiring the movie Rudy drew quite a price tag for the helmet and jersey he wore in his lone game for Notre Dame.

Former Fighting Irish football player Rudy Ruettiger auctioned off his team gear on Saturday for $241,500.

Ruettiger aligned with Hunt Auctions through the NFL Auction at the Super Bowl in Houston, TX, joking that his decision to auction off the gear landed him a trip to the NFL’s big game. AFC champion New England battles NFC champion Atlanta on Sunday for the right to hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The former walk-on’s father had been storing the helmet and jersey that he wore on Nov. 8, 1975, in a case for years. Ruettiger claimed the items when his father passed away, and he decided it was time to let them go with the idea that they would hold sentimental value for someone else.

Some of the proceeds from the auction will go to NFL charities.

The Rudy film was released on October 13, 1993, and starred Sean Astin as the title character.
