Four-star safety Richard LeCounte spoke with Campus Insiders about the Florida-Georgia rivalry and why he can't wait to play for Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs.
December 6, 2016Four-star safety Richard LeCounte spoke with Campus Insiders about the Florida-Georgia rivalry and why he can’t wait to play for Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs.
Right now, Richard LeCounte, the No. 39 overall player in the country, is preparing for the next level. He’s getting ready for life in Athens and the next chapter in his life as a Georgia Bulldog.
Before that happens, though, he’ll play in the last game of his high school football career: the 2017 Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 7.
While in preparation for the game, LeCounte spoke with Campus Insiders about his future as a Bulldog. And when he was asked about the Florida-Georgia rivalry, the nation’s No. 3 safety didn’t hold back on his disgust for the Gators, which was fueled by their 24-10 win over the Bulldogs this past season.
“I hate Florida,” LeCounte said. “I’m not a Florida fan. I’m not a Florida Gator. I’m not fond of anything Florida. I plan on beating them as long as I’m in college. I don’t want it to be a rivalry when we get there. I just want it to be another game that we win. I want to take all the fun out of it. I don’t want it to be fun at all.”
Of course, LeCounte’s future head coach is a former UGA defensive back, himself. Kirby Smart knows all about the adventure LeCounte is about to embark on.
And even though the 4-star recruit had additional offers from Power Five programs like Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State and others, it was Smart’s hiring in Athens that sealed the deal for the Hinesville, Georgia native.
“His resume,” LeCounte said when asked about what he loves about Smart. “He offered me in my ninth grade year. Ever since then, I’ve been calling him and keeping up with him … him moving to my home state, Georgia, was amazing. That’s all I needed.”
UGA currently has the No. 2 spot in the 2017 recruiting class rankings with 18 total commits.
