Why Army Will Win

Rice has had issues stopping the run this fall, yielding more than five yards a carry. The Owls’ interior softness will get exposed by the Black Knights, whose ground-and-pound offense ranks No. 11 nationally at 259 rushing yards per game.

Why Rice Will Win

Army will move the ball on the ground, but it’s having trouble scoring touchdowns. The Owls will have more offensive pop on Saturday afternoon, stressing the limits of an underrated cadet D with QB Driphus Jackson’s arm and a diverse backfield that’s produced four 200-yard backs.

What’s Going To Happen?

While Army is a scrappy bunch, the offense lacks the consistency and diversity to defeat well-rested Rice on the road. The Owls will win the line of scrimmage, while a beleaguered secondary gets a rare break versus an opponent averaging only seven pass attempts per game.
