Report: Treon Harris Switching To Wide Receiver For Spring Practice

Treon Harris is switching to wide receiver, which is a good move for the much-malined former quarterback.

    February 5, 2016

A rumor surfaced on Thursday that Treon Harris had made the switch from quarterback to wide receiver after Purdue transfer Austin Appleby tweeted a picture with the caption, “The QB crew! Great group of guys gonna do big things this year!” Harris was noticeably missing from the group.

Andrew Spivey of Gator Country also tweeted that Harris was working out at receiver.

Even before Thursday’s rumblings, the move seemed inevitable given the incoming group of quarterbacks and Harris’ struggles at the position. In addition to Appleby, highly-touted freshman Feleipe Franks, fellow 2016 signee Kyle Trask and Oregon State transfer Luke Del Rio will all compete for the starting job in 2016.

On Friday, a source of Gridiron Now confirmed the rumors that Harris has made the switch to receiver for spring practice. It’s a smart move going into his junior season. Harris is a playmaker with the ball in his hands.

Asking for the decision to work out as well as Braxton Miller’s did with Ohio State may be a bit much, but Harris definitely has the talent to make an impact in the SEC at the wideout position.
