Report: Jimbo Fisher Staying At FSU, Turns Down LSU

Jimbo Fisher is reportedly staying at FSU, having turned down the open LSU coaching position. The Tigers are now targeting Houston head coach Tom Herman.

    November 25, 2016

The LSU Tigers wanted Jimbo Fisher, but he has reportedly declined the open head coaching position in favor of staying with FSU.

Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher appears to be staying put. According to ESPN’s Chris Low, Fisher has decided to remain the head coach of the Seminoles after reports surfaced that he was LSU’s top choice to take over the head coaching position.

“LSU has zeroed in on Houston’s Tom Herman after Jimbo Fisher elected to stay at FSU. Deal with Tigers not yet done,” reported ESPN’s Mark Schlabach (via Low).

Just prior to the news regarding Fisher, a separate report surfaced that LSU was “closing in on” Houston’s Tom Herman as the program’s next head coach.

“I decline comment on that and any other report that’s out there,” LSU athletic director Joe Alleva told The Advocate earlier Thursday following the report regarding Herman.

During his radio show on Wednesday, Fisher asked Florida State fans to “just be patient.”

“I love it here,” Fisher also stated. “I really do.”

Despite his ties to LSU, it appears that his love for Florida State will keep him in Tallahassee after a second straight year of the Tigers reportedly attempting to pull him to Baton Rouge.

With Fisher staying put, LSU is now turning its attention to arguably the biggest fish in the coaching search sea: Herman. However, he’s anything but a sure thing given that the Texas Longhorns are also reportedly interested, should they fire head coach Charlie Strong.
