Charlie Strong will be fired by the Texas Longhorns, according to multiple reports on Sunday evening.

The writing was on the wall as soon as Kansas kicked a game-winning field goal in overtime to beat the Texas Longhorns on Saturday, and now it appears the powers that be will fire Charlie Strong as the football program’s head coach.

According to the Austin American-Statesman, Texas has decided to part ways with Strong. The university has yet to officially announce it.

“It will happen for sure. The question is when” stated the American-Statesman’s source, who is described as “high-ranking.” The source says that the decision could come Monday morning.

Brett McMurphy of ESPN has also confirmed Texas’ decision to fire Strong, but that he will coach Friday’s regular-season finale against TCU.

CBS Sports also reports that the official announcement will likely come before Thanksgiving.

With Saturday’s loss, Texas dropped below .500 on the season at 5-6. The Jayhawks entered the matchup with just one win on the season, which came in Week 1 against Rhode Island.

Strong will end his tenure with the worst winning percentage in Texas history. He’s 16-20 at the helm of the Longhorns, and he has failed to finish above fourth place in the Big 12.

Following Saturday’s loss Strong was asked by a reporter, “Do you have any idea what this means for your future?”

“No I don’t … no idea,” he responded as if knowing the end had come.

With his firing, Texas will owe Strong a $10 million buyout.

The Longhorns will now be tasked with their second coaching search since late 2013 – Strong was hired on January 5, 2014. Reports surfaced on Saturday that the Longhorns’ administration is receiving “extreme pressure” from prominent boosters to fire Strong and hire Houston Cougars head coach Tom Herman, who many believe is the frontrunner to land the job.

UPDATE – 11/20, 7:35 pm ET – University of Texas men’s athletic director Mike Perrin released a statement following the surfacing of reports that Strong would be fired.

“There are a number of rumors out there about the status of Coach Strong. I’ve said it all along, we will evaluate the body of work after the regular season. We have a game to get ready for against TCU on Friday, and I hope our fans will come out and support our team. We’ll discuss where things stand after that.”
