The Boston Red Sox 6-3 victory over the Houston Astros on Saturday cleared up the American League playoff picture.
The win for Boston secured the American League East after a late-season charge from the New York Yankees.
The loss for Houston means that the Cleveland Indians clinched home field advantage throughout the American League playoffs. The Indians will play the winner of Tuesday’s Wild Card Game between the Twins and Yankees. The Red Sox and Astros will play each other in a series beginning on Thursday in Houston.
The AL playoffs are set: Indians vs. Yankees/Twins ALWC winner; Astros vs. Red Sox. Indians and Astros have home-field advantage in ALDS.

The Red Sox entered the day with a two-game lead over the Yankees. Boston’s bats got going in the fourth inning when Hanley Ramirez hit an RBI single and Rafael Devers added an RBI double.
The Red Sox stretched their lead off Lance McCullers in the fifth inning with run-scoring hits from Andrew Benintendi and Mitch Moreland.
Drew Pomeranz tossed six innings in the victory. David Price pitched one inning in relief and got the Red Sox out of a jam in the seventh inning. Craig Kimbrel recorded the final out for Boston before the team celebrated on the mound.
