Rashan Gary Recruiting Update As Dead Period Ends

Rashan Gary recruiting update following the end of the dead period. The pursuit of the nation's No. 1 recruit is back on.

    January 14, 2016

Rashan Gary recruiting update as the dead period comes to a close on Thursday, Jan. 14.

The dead period is now over — as of 12:01 a.m. Thursday morning. Coaches and recruiting coordinators will now zig-zag from recruit to recruit trying to land a commitment.

One name everyone wants to be connected to is Rashan Gary. The nation’s No. 1 defensive tackle and No. 1 overall player can play at any school in the country with his level of talent.

He’s a 6-foot-5, 293-pound monster on the defensive line. He’s quick, explosive, strong and tosses offensive linemen like they’re nothing.

While his door is busy being knocked down by a plethora of recruiters, there are only a few programs in true contention for Gary.

Michigan appears to be the team to beat for Gary’s commitment. The Wolverines sent Chris Partridge, their director of recruiting, to visit Gary’s high school, Paramus Catholic, on Thursday.

Partridge was hired by Michigan in January of 2015, but can you guess where he was before that? He was the coach of Paramus Catholic in Paramus, N.J.

That’s right. He was the coach at Gary’s high school. So, the safe bet would be on Jim Harbaugh to land the nation’s top recruit.

But how much time will Partridge get with Gary? The star prospect will be leaving to take an official visit to USC on Thursday.

That could be a big reason why Gary is taking an unofficial visit to Ann Arbor, Mich. on Jan. 22 — to make up for some lost time.

Michigan has been favored to land Gary for a while, pretty much since his good friend, Kareem Walker, the nation’s No. 1 running back, committed to the Wolverines on Dec. 17.

With the dead period over, the pursuit of Gary will be one of recruiting’s hottest storylines as we head down the home stretch to National Signing Day.
