Will Rashan Gary pick Michigan? Kareem Walker is doing what he can to make sure.

Jim Harbaugh went out and grabbed his running back of the future this week. On Thursday, De Paul Catholic (Wayne, NJ) prospect Kareem Walker committed to the Wolverines.

His commitment, which Harbaugh lured away from the rival Ohio State Buckeyes, could mean even bigger things for the maize and blue in the 2016 recruiting class.

Often times a recruit of Walker’s caliber can start an avalanche of other elite prospects choosing a team. Commits become recruiters for a program, and that’s exactly what’s happening with Walker.

As 247Sports Composite’s No. 1 running back and No. 38 overall prospect, Walker is a big fish. But there’s a whale out there, and Harbaugh now has the bait he needs to lure him in.

His name is Rashan Gary, and he’s the No. 1-ranked prospect in the nation. He’s listed at 6-foot-5 and 293 pounds and is the type of player who can dominate offensive linemen consistently.

Following his announcement on Thursday, Walker had a short, but very sweet message for Gary, who also happens to be from New Jersey.

    “Let’s work together,” Walker said.

Michigan’s class is already ranked No. 2 in the country. With Gary, as well as several other top prospects still out there, the Wolverines could end up taking something else from Ohio State this year – the No. 1 recruiting ranking.
