Newly-hired Central Florida athletic director Danny White is wasting no time getting to work. He has a head-coaching position to fill, and he is already lining up potential replacements for George O’Leary.

Fox 35 News anchor Adam Shadoff reported on Tuesday that one of the candidates on White’s list is just a short drive to the north in Gainesville, Fla. Shadoff sent out the following tweet that Randy Shannon, who joined Jim McElwain’s staff this past offseason, is set to interview.

Of note is that Shannon is technically listed as Florida’s “Associate Head Coach/Co-Coordinator/Linebackers,” while Geoff Collins is the team’s defensive coordinator.

Shannon was the head coach at the University of Miami from 2007-10 before being fired. He’s one of the nation’s best recruiters and has deep ties into the South Florida area.

After parting ways with his alma mater, UM, he was hired as TCU’s linebackers coach and then plucked away by Bret Bielema when he took over Arkansas in 2013.
