Quincy Patterson, a 2018 quarterback recruit out of Chicago, Illinois, pledged to Virginia Tech on Monday.

The Virginia Tech Hokies landed their fifth commitment and second quarterback for the 2018 recruiting cycle on Monday, and it came by way of the Chicagoland area.

Three-star quarterback Quincy Patterson out of Eric Solorio Academy committed to the Hokies.

He posted a photo of the following handwritten note announcing his decision on Twitter along with “100% committed.”

“After deep thought, visiting a multitude of football programs, discussions with my parents, and weighing out my options, I want to thank everyone who has been there for me throughout this recruitment journey and helped fulfill a dream at getting the opportunity to play at the next level. Furthermore, I am proud to announce that I will be furthering my engineering and football aspirations at Virginia Tech University!!!”

While Patterson’s commitment isn’t star-studded, it does further show the reach head coach Justin Fuente and his staff are providing on the recruiting trail for the Hokies. Patterson is the fourth 2018 out-of-state prospect to commit so far, the others being from Florida, Maryland, South Carolina and Pennsylvania. It’s a sign that the Hokie brand is alive and well nationally.

Virginia Tech signed 18 high school prospects from out of state in the 2017 cycle.
