The No. 18 Purdue Boilermakers will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. on Saturday to take on the Michigan Wolverines at the Crisler Center.

The Boilermakers (20-5, 8-4 Big Ten) rebounded nicely from their loss to Maryland by hanging on to beat Michigan State, 82-81, in West Lafayette, Ind. on Tuesday. It was a game that saw an 18-point deficit erased and taken into overtime. In the extra period, Rapheal Davis connected on his first free throw to break an 81-81 tie with five seconds remaining. He missed his second, but A.J Hammons corralled the board and fought off the Spartans as time expired. Purdue lost the turnover battle (16-9), but it had the edge on the glass (42-39) and shot 50 percent from deep. Davis, who tore it up in the first half, finished with a team-high 24 points and added seven rebounds. Hammons recorded a near triple-double with 19 points, 13 rebounds and eight blocked shots.

The Wolverines (18-7, 8-4 Big Ten) put a stop to their two-game losing skid by knocking off Minnesota, 82-74, on the road Wednesday. The Gophers narrowed a large Wolverine lead to just two points with 1:37 to play, but Michigan used an 8-2 run to close out the game and earn the win. The big key for Michigan was getting its groove back from behind the arc as it canned 14-of-25 triples (56.0 percent) and shot 53.8 percent overall. Derrick Walton Jr. scored 19 of his game-high 26 points in the first half and had a near triple double with eight rebounds and seven assists.

Saturday will mark the 153rd meeting between Purdue and Michigan all-time, with the Boilers leading the series, 86-66. This is the second meeting of the season between these two teams as the Boilermakers defeated the Wolverines, 87-70 on Jan. 7.

This one feels like a letdown loss for the Boilermakers, especially if Caris LeVert returns, but give them the benefit of the doubt after their gritty performance against the Spartans. Look, Purdue knows what it’s going to get inside from A.J. Hammons, but who is going to step up and be a secondary scorer? The role has been a revolving door for Purdue all season, but the vote goes to Rapheal Davis. Last time out, Davis saw what this team can do when he asserts himself on both sides of the floor. If he can keep it up, the Boilers escape with a tough win.
