Purdue vs. Indiana prediction, online live stream and TV broadcast information for Saturday's game between the Boilermakers and Hoosiers.
September 24, 2016The No. 17 Purdue Boilermakers will make the short trip to Bloomington, Ind. to renew their longtime rivalry with the No. 22 Indiana Hoosiers Saturday.
The Boilermakers (21-6, 9-5 Big Ten) rebounded from their tough loss to Michigan last week by beating the Northwestern Wildcats, 71-61, in West Lafayette, Ind. Tuesday. It wasn’t pretty, but Purdue led wire-to-wire. The Wildcats were close at times, trailing by four early in the second half and then again by eight with 4:39 left, but Ryan Cline and Johnny Hill canned consecutive threes to put the game away. It was a rough night shooting for the Boilers as they struggled from three (30.8 percent) and from the field (38.3 percent). But they were able to get back to dominating the boards, 44-21, including 19 on the offensive glass. A.J. Hammons found his groove as he posted his fourth double-double in his last five games with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Cline and Hill combined for 26 points off the bench in the win.
The Hoosiers (21-6, 11-3 Big Ten) are tied with Iowa atop the conference and responded nicely from their beat down from Michigan State by knocking off Nebraska Wednesday night. Indiana got off to a slow start but used a 17-4 run to close out the first half and grab a seven-point lead. That momentum carried over after the break as the Hoosiers opened the second half on a 13-2 run and coasted from there on out. Both teams shot well, but Indiana had the edge in overall field goal percentage (52.9 percent) and in the rebounding battle (32-24). Troy Williams was the main man for the Hoosiers. He led the team with 18 points, missing just one of his nine field goal attempts on the night.
Saturday’s matchup between Purdue and Indiana is the 204th all-time between the two rivals. Purdue leads the all-time series, 115-88, and has won the last three meetings.
Below is everything you need to know about the matchup, including the Purdue vs. Indiana prediction, online live stream and TV broadcast info, and game notes.
Boy, are we in for a good one in Bloomington. Purdue hasn’t beaten a ranked Indiana team at Assembly Hall since 1999, but it has a chance to get it done Saturday.
We know the Boilers have the bigs and can defend with the best of them, but how will they fare with the Hoosiers’ deadly outside shooting? The x-factor here is Caleb Swanigan. In past losses, he has struggled to stay with Maryland’s Robert Carter and Michigan’s Zak Irvin, both of whom hurt Purdue from the outside. Whoever he is matched up with will have the same capability. If Swanigan can shutdown his man, the Boilers will ride back to West Lafayette with the win.
