March 11, 2016The Providence Friars have made it to the NCAA Tournament. Here’s a preview of the team and a prediction of how they’ll do during March Madness.
Team: Providence Friars
Record: 23-10
Conference: Big East
Head coach: Ed Cooley
How they got here: At-Large Bid
The trio of Ben Bentil, Kris Dunn and Rodney Bullock is as good a triple-threat as you’ll find. Bentil is the go-to scorer, a guy who can take over on both ends of the court and kills it on the glass. Dunn is the do-everything guy who can score, rebound and pass, and he can knock down the three. Bullock can get to the rim and is a quality rebounder with enough of an outside game to keep opponents honest.
Beyond the top three, the drop-off is steep, and any foul trouble is a huge issue for Ed Cooley’s squad. This also is a team that gets in a lot of trouble when it falls behind. This isn’t a great three-point shooting team, and if opponents control the tempo, it’s all but over for Providence.
Keep an eye on the Friars. They beat Butler three times this year, and they stunned Arizona back in late November. The possibility of a win or two is there, although it’s more likely the Friars will be watching the Sweet 16 from home.
