Prediction: Indiana – Yes, Indiana – Will Be Big Ten Surprise Team

Campus Insiders' Pete Fiutak makes his final 2015 Big Ten season predictions including who will win the conference, who will be the breakout player, and why Indiana will surprise the entire conference.

    August 24, 2015

After all of the hype and excitement coming off a big bowl season, along with a relatively large coaching hire, the Big Ten has all the juice. So what’s going to happen and who’s going to win the conference title?

Team that will surprise: Indiana – As long as QB Nate Sudfeld can stay in one piece, and if there’s a semblance of a passing game again, Indiana could make a wee bit of noise in the terrific Big Ten East. No, the Hoosiers won’t be able to handle Ohio State or Michigan State, but they should be able to get through the first four games with at least three wins against Southern Illinois, FIU, WKU and at Wake Forest. Can they beat Rutgers or Iowa at home? Can they get by Purdue? There’s enough there to shoot for at least six wins and a bowl game.

Player who deserves a bigger spotlight: Nebraska defensive tackle Maliek Collins. One of the nation’s tip interior pass rushers, put him on the First Team All-Big Ten squad now. He came up with 45 tackles with 4.5 sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss. Extremely quick off the ball, he knows how to get to the quarterback and bring the pressure, and he proved he could gum up the works

Who’s going to win the Big Ten? To wuss out, the Ohio State-Michigan State winner will take the Big Ten. Fine … Ohio State.
