March 22, 2016Four-star linebacker Peter Werner committed to Notre Dame, giving the Fighting Irish three linebacker commits in as many days.
Brian Kelly’s team picked up another key addition to its 2017 class when 4-star prospect Pete Werner, from Indianapolis, committed to Notre Dame Monday evening.
Werner, the No. 20 outside linebacker and No. 259 overall recruit, tweeted out his decision to spend his college career in South Bend, Ind.
At 6-foot-3 and 210 lbs, Werner has played a lot in the secondary, but he’ll likely tack on some weight in order to make the full-time switch to linebacker at the next level — about 10 to 15 lbs would be ideal.
The two things popping off the screen when watching film of Werner are his form and hit power. Werner does a great job of dropping hips and driving through tackles. He isn’t afraid to thump ball carriers either.
Werner joins David Adams, a 4-star inside linebacker, and Drew White, a 3-star outside linebacker, as recent commitments at the position for the Irish. Adams committed to Notre Dame on Sunday, while White announced his decision Monday — a few hours prior to Werner.
