Four-star outside linebacker Payton Wilson is planning an Ohio State visit in the near future. He now has an offer from the Buckeyes, personally extended by Urban Meyer over the phone.

Four-star outside linebacker Payton Wilson is seriously considering Ohio State thanks to a conversation he had with Urban Meyer, and that connection could help the Buckeyes as they continue to pursue his commitment.

The competition is fierce for 4-star prospect Payton Wilson, and it’s been growing tougher lately.

The talented outside linebacker from Hillsborough, North Carolina has been stacking up offers left and right since the new year began. Clemson, Florida State, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Ohio State have all extended scholarship offers this month.

However, of the new teams to enter the race, the Buckeyes are standing out right now. And it’s all because of a conversation Wilson had with Urban Meyer, who personally told Wilson he had a scholarship waiting at Ohio State.

“One of the recruiting coordinators said to give him a call. Then they put me on the phone with Coach Meyer,” Wilson told 247Sports. “It was awesome to talk with coach Meyer. Not many people get the chance to do that. Obviously, they have a great football program. It seems like a great school for academics.”

Wilson’s interest in the Buckeyes continues to grow, and he’s planning to take a trip to Columbus this spring — possibly for their spring game. A great time at Ohio State can go a long way in his recruitment, especially if it helps notch the Buckeyes a spot on Wilson’s official visit list this upcoming fall.

Ohio State hasn’t signed a player out of North Carolina since the 2016 recruiting class when it landed former 4-star running back Antonio Williams from New London, North Carolina.

He also has a trip to Clemson on March 4 planned, and several others in the works.
