Five-star cornerback Patrick Surtain Jr. (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) is a highly-coveted prospect who has caught the attention of just about every major program in the country. Ranked as the No. 1 cornerback and No. 8 overall player in the CI 25, he’s a do-it-all defender.
While he’s yet to officially release a top schools list, Surtain has floated out a few groups throughout the process. For the most part, his top schools have remained the same, save for a couple that have rotated in and out.
“I do have a couple schools in mind — LSU, Alabama, Florida, Clemson, Florida State and Ohio State,” Surtain said last week. “Those are the top schools I favor.”
At The Opening Miami over the weekend, Surtain reiterated the aforementioned teams are among his top choices and said that he does plan to drop a top 10 in the near future. He also said Miami will be included with the previous six.
As for the other three schools, we’ll have to wait and see.
Of the teams already listed, he says that LSU and FSU are his leaders as of now.
“LSU and FSU out front, then right behind them Clemson, Ohio State and Miami,” Surtain told Noles247.
The Tigers have long been considered the favorite to land Surtain. His dad, who was a Pro Bowler in the NFL, is also originally from New Orleans and he has family in Louisiana.
He plans to announce his decision mid-season of his senior year.
“You know, I loved LSU since I was a kid. My family lives up there, so that makes them [at] the top of my list. It’s close between them and Florida State, but LSU gets the edge because of those two things. Another thing is that it feels almost like home, so that’s a major key.”
