Tennessee Is Supposed To Be Better. Now It’s Time To Prove It.
This was supposed to be the year the Vols broke through and became a powerhouse again, and they were close to doing it. They might have lost the four really big games, but they lost to Oklahoma in a two-overtime collapse. They lost on a fourth down play to Florida, lost a 24-20 gut-wrencher to Arkansas, and lost a dogfight with Alabama. You are what your record is, but Tennessee might just be better than 8-4. Coming in on a five-game winning streak, a win would mean this would be what seems like the 14th offseason in a row that Tennessee will be the it team to watch out for.
Northwestern Doesn’t Find Ten Wins Ugly
The team that defined the idea of finding a way to get wins, Northwestern doesn’t have a passing game, it doesn’t come up with big plays, and it could’ve and probably should’ve lost close games to Nebraska, Penn State and Wisconsin, but it also started out the season with a win over Stanford and closed out strong with a five-game winning streak to earn the sweet bowl bid. Enjoy a fundamentally sound defense, enjoy the tough running game, and enjoy a close battle. Just don’t enjoy anything aesthetically pleasing.
