Oregon vs. Duke picks for the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 matchup between the Ducks and Blue Devils.
When the season began, anyone who would have predicted Oregon and Duke would meet in the NCAA Tournament probably wouldn’t have pegged the Blue Devils as a 4-seed and the Ducks a 1-seed. That’s exactly how the matchup shook out as the two teams will meet for the first time this season in the Sweet 16.
Oregon took care of its first-round game against 16-seed Holy Cross with a 92-51 win. Piece of cake, right? Well, the Ducks were given a tougher go of it in the second round by 8-seeded Saint Joe’s. Fortunately for head coach Dana Altman, Oregon prevailed, 69-64, to continue dancing.
Duke saw its roster go through some significant changes from last year’s championship-winning squad. With only four upperclassmen on the roster, sophomore Grayson Allen stepped into a leadership role and helped the Blue Devils take down 13-seed UNC-Wilmington in the first round, 93-85. Duke then nuck by Yale in round two, 71-64.
Here are the Campus Insiders Oregon vs. Duke picks.
Sam Falcone
Oregon let Saint Joe’s hang around. Duke let Yale make a big comeback. Both have struggled, but Duke has too much star power with Brandon Ingram and Grayson Allen.
Robert Judin
The popular pick in any other year would be Duke. But right now, I feel like quacking. You won’t see a flying-V in this one, but what you will see is freshman Tyler Dorsey continue to make big plays when the Ducks need them the most. Oregon will win in a back-and-forth battle.
Pete Fiutak
Oregon didn’t show off its offensive explosion against Saint Joe’s until it absolutely had to. Duke caught a break – it really did – getting Yale, and almost gagged it away. It’s about to get outrun and outgunned. The rested Ducks are going to get the O rolling again.
