October 14, 2016Ole Miss vs. Arkansas prediction roundtable with the Campus Insiders staff. Breaking down what will happen in the game between the Rebels and Razorbacks.
In one of three top-25 games this week, the No. 12 Ole Miss Rebels will travel to face off against the No. 22 Arkansas Razorbacks in a rematch of last year’s thrilling game. Arkansas won that contest, 53-52, in overtime.
The Razorbacks are 0-2 in SEC play, while the Rebels are 1-1.
Arkansas has won two in a row over Ole Miss.
Apparently there’s a reason I should think Arkansas is a team worthy of the No. 23 ranking? I don’t know why. The Razorbacks have wins over Louisiana Tech (by one point), an underwhelming TCU team, Texas State and Alcorn State. They looked completely overmatched against Texas A&M and Alabama, a team Ole Miss had on the ropes a few weeks ago. I understand the Rebels have a reputation for not closing out games – like the one against Crimson Tide and their opener against Florida State – but they easily could be unbeaten and in the College Football Playoff discussion had they held on. Chad Kelly and Ole Miss win by two scores.
I hate seeing a sad Bret Bielema. The man was made for midnight buffets and margarita machines – you know, the finer things in life. Alas, he’s going up against the best two-loss team in the country. This will be an exciting game – maybe the best of the weekend – with Ole Miss coming out on top after pulling away in the fourth quarter. And in some dark corner of a dank central-Arkansas jail cell there’ll be a disgruntled professor continuing to curse Bert’s name while garbling some nonsense about missing John L. Smith. Good thing the authorities apprehended the loon last week.
Is Chad Kelly the first-round talent everyone proclaimed him as before the season started? As I’ve said from Day 1, no he is not. He’s good, really good, but he needs to protect the football and keep an eye on Evan Engram because that guy can ball. There isn’t a Razorback in sight who can cover Engram. Arkansas will definitely make it interesting, and Austin Allen will have a huge role in keeping the game close, but the Rebels are going to do the unthinkable and play a full game — four quarters of winning football. Ole Miss wins by a touchdown.
OOOOHHHHHHH, this one is interesting. Ole Miss is still rueing the end of last year’s game against the Razorbacks, and will be looking for payback. Chad Kelly is having an amazing year, but the big uglies for Arkansas will try to make him squirm a little in the pocket. In the end, Bret Bielema will lose his cool, Hugh Freeze will look bewildered, and the Rebels walk out of Arkansas with a win.
