    Why You Need To Care

Wisconsin (4-2) leads the all-time series 4-3 in this Big 12-Big Ten mash-up. The last time they played each other was Nov. 28, 2014, at the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament in the Bahamas.Wisconsin won that game 69-56 in the tournament championship.

Oklahoma (3-0) has ripped off three straight wins to open this season. It took down Memphis, McNeese State and Incarnate Word with an average win margin of 22.7 points.

The Badgers have seen their share of good and bad so far. They were upset by Western Illinois 69-67 to start the season, but then they didn’t lose again until Georgetown got the best of them last Friday.

The Sooners are gong to look to score early and often. But that’s what you would expect from the nation’s 17th-highest-scoring offense (88.3 ppg). Wisconsin can score, too, but it allows opponents to shoot 45.7 percent from the field right now. Someone has to step up for the Badgers.

    Why Oklahoma Will Win

It’s really, really tough to imagine Wisconsin stopping the Sooners from scoring. Oklahoma is shooting 41.8 percent from three and 49.7 percent overall. Being on their home court in Norman, the energy from the crowd should help spur some one-sided-scoring runs. But on defense, the Sooners have to keep the Badgers off the boards. Wisconsin is ranked No. 21 in offensive rebounding (89), so that could be a way for the Badgers to make their mark: second chance opportunities.

    Why Wisconsin Will Win

It was just mentioned. The Badgers absolutely need to clean up on the glass. The Sooners have only collected 106 defensive rebounds and 39 offensive rebounds, which isn’t even good enough to rank them in the top-300 in those categories. If Wisconsin holds their position and wins on the boards, it’ll then need to lock down the perimeter. Oklahoma can be dangerous when knocking down jump shots from the outside. If the Badgers close out and at least make it difficult, they might be able to turn some contested jumpers into easy points on the other end.

    Players Who Matter

How do you not talk about Buddy Hield? The senior guard leads the team with 25.3 points per game and is shooting 56.8 percent from the field. On top of that, he’s knocking down 57.9 percent of his shots from three-point range. He’s been a man possessed with the ball in his hands. Other than Hield, Ryan Spangler needs to show up. He’s the only one even close to averaging a double-double with 10.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.

For Wisconsin, you have to look at Bronson Koenig because he’s its leading scorer. The junior guard is averaging 17.3 points per game on 50 percent shooting from the field, and he’s hit 41.7 percent of his threes, too. Watching him and Hield go off should be fun. The Badgers, though, need more from Nigel Hayes. He was supposed to take a step forward this season with Frank Kaminsky and Sam Dekker leaving. But even though Hayes is averaging 14 points per game, he needs to be more efficient than 39.1 percent shooting.

    What’s Going To Happen?

Wisconsin has the pieces to give Oklahoma a run for its money — especially if the Badgers find a way to win the rebounding battle. But it’s extremely hard to pick against the Sooners when they’re on their home court. Oklahoma should hit some momentous threes in the game and get some key stops on defense to stall the Wisconsin offense. The Sooners take this one but not without a fight from the Badgers.
