Oklahoma vs. Villanova picks for the NCAA Tournament's Final Four matchup between the Sooners and Wildcats.
March 27, 2016Oklahoma vs. Villanova picks for the NCAA Tournament’s Final Four matchup between the Sooners and Wildcats.
The Oklahoma Sooners may not be the most complete team in the Final Four, but they have the ultimate equalizer: Buddy Hield. Hield is averaging the most points of any player to make the Final Four since Dennis Scott in 1990. He can’t be stopped, and it doesn’t seem like he can even be contained.
Behind Hield’s 37 points, the Sooners made relatively easy work of the No. 1-seeded Oregon Ducks to advance to the Final Four. Isaiah Cousins and Jordan Woodard each scored in double digits as well, with 11 and 13 points, respectively.
Waiting for Oklahoma in the Final Four is a well-rounded Villanova Wildcats team that’s proven its worth in the NCAA Tournament. Jay Wright has done a masterful coaching job this season, leading the program to its second Final Four appearance under his watch and first since 2009.
Senior guard Ryan Arcidiacono can hit shots from just about anywhere on the court, and is the heart and soul of the Wildcats. Fellow senior Daniel Ochefu is a bear in the front court. Villanova gets contributions from all areas, which makes the Wildcats so difficult to defend – just ask No. 1-overall seed Kansas if you have any doubts.
It’s Round 2 for Oklahoma vs. Villanova. The Sooners took the first matchup with ease back in December, winning 78-55.
Below are the Campus Insiders Oklahoma vs. Villanova picks.
Buddy Hield is the best player in the country and he’s out of his mind right now. Ride the hot hand with Oklahoma. Also: Lon Kruger is the best coach yet to have won a title. Boomer Sooner.
Oklahoma was the one Final Four pick I got right – you’re dead to me, Michigan State, Maryland and Kentucky – but I won’t let my Sooner love to get in the way of reality. Villanova’s zone defense will get it done where the Oregon D failed. The Wildcats will actually guard Mr. Hield and get into the national title game – and lose.
I’ve been riding Buddy Hield the entire tournament, and I’m not about to stop now. He’s a special kind of player, and he’ll do enough to lift the Sooners over the the Villanova Wildcats in the Final Four and into the national championship game. Oklahoma makes its third title game appearance, 1947 and 1988 being the other two.
There’s nothing easy about this pick, but since I’m having to choose, I’m going with the best player in the country. Buddy Hield and the Sooners play for the national title.
