    Oklahoma vs. Baylor Game Preview

    When: Saturday, November 12 – 12:00 p.m. ET
    Where: Memorial Stadium, Norman, OK
    Broadcast: ABC or ESPN2

Baylor and Oklahoma both have a pair of losses, but those two defeats feel dramatically different entering Week 11. True, the Sooners have fallen twice, but not since the Sept. 17 debacle against Ohio State. They’ve roared back with six straight wins to take over the Big 12 driver’s seat and crack the top 10 for the first time since losing the opener to Houston. The Bears, meanwhile, have lost their last two games, dropping a heartbreaker to Texas before being ransacked by TCU in Waco last Saturday, 62-22. Baylor is liable to go into a full-blown tailspin this week in Norman if it can’t immediately address what went wrong versus the Horned Frogs.

    What To Know About Baylor

The Bears began the year 6-0 against a soft schedule, but dropped the last two as poor defense and off-field distractions have caught up with Jim Grobe’s team. In the TCU game, Baylor allowed 431 yards and six touchdowns on the ground, a particular problem as Sooner backs Joe Mixon and Samaje Perine return from a one-game suspension and get healthier, respectively. Now that the Bear D has been exposed, it’ll be up to Seth Russell to not only continue gobbling up yards on the ground, but to also take advantage of a shaky OU secondary by connecting with receivers KD Cannon and Ishmael Zamora.

    What to Know About Oklahoma

Don’t be deceived by the Sooners’ recent defensive uptick. Had a lot to do with facing Kansas and Iowa State in consecutive games. Oklahoma is ascending in spite of the D … and because of an offense that’s normed close to 50 points per game during the winning streak. The running game will be fortified by the return of Mixon and possibly Perine, who’s missed the last three with a leg injury. Baylor’s other problem will be dealing with Baker Mayfield and Dede Westbrook, who form one of college football’s most lethal pitch-and-catch combos. Westbrook has been an unstoppable field-stretcher, which is helping free up everyone else on the underneath stuff.

    Advantages

Offense: Oklahoma. Baylor is a shell of its recent versions. Oklahoma is just shelling opposing defenses with nuanced run-pass looks.

Defense: Oklahoma. Nah, the Sooners aren’t that great, but they do a better job of stopping the run, and the trend of the Baylor is not encouraging.

Special Teams: Oklahoma. Mixon provides a boost to the return game, while Austin Seibert gives the unit a reliable and versatile leg.

Coaching: Oklahoma. Jim Grobe is enduring the difficult circumstances in Waco, but he’s not in the same league as Bob Stoops or his staff of assistants.

Intangibles: Oklahoma. Enormous gap here, as the Bears try to avoid circling the drain as the Sooners continue their march toward a possible Big 12 crown.

If there’s one area that’ll really concern Stoops and his defensive assistants, it’s Baylor’s speed and explosiveness on the outside. This is an area where the Bears will have an edge on Saturday, and they’ll have to exploit it to keep pace with the Sooner scoring machine.

    Baylor at Oklahoma Prediction

It’s the beginning of the end of Baylor in 2016. And Oklahoma is the wrong opponent against which to try and reverse the course of a season. The Bears are liable to get smoked for a second straight week. Plus, once the Sooners start applying pressure to the gas pedal, Baylor won’t have the drive or the fight to mount a resistance. OU will keep rolling behind Mayfield, carrying a head of steam into next week’s crucial trip to Morgantown to play West Virginia.

Oklahoma vs. Baylor Score Prediction: Oklahoma 47, Baylor 24
