    12 months later …
There’s a wee bit different vibe. Last year at this time, Oklahoma appeared to get it mojo back with a great win over Oklahoma State leading into a phenomenal performance and win over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. Trevor Knight looked like another Aaron Rodgers, the defense was getting the stars back, and there was talk of playoff, a possible No. 1 ranking, and a chance at being a part of all the fun. After a 4-5 finish and embarrassing losses to OSU and in the bowl against Clemson – losing in vastly different ways – the Sooners aren’t on anyone’s radar. Is it possible to thrive as the underdog now? Over the course of spring ball, Bob Stoops should have the full attention of his team – even more than usual. OU might be closer to greatness than you might think, and this spring has to start showing that.

No one is worried about … the running game. The offensive line might need some retooling, but with all of the top running backs returning, led by Samaje Perine and with a good backup in Alex Ross, offensively, there’s no reason to concentrate on doing anything more than getting the passing game going. The running backs should be tremendous in what should be another season with more than 3,000 rushing yards.

Extra attention must be given to … the quarterback gig that deservedly needs the spotlight. It’s not an overstatement to call this one of the most important position battles in college football this season, and there has to be a clear definition from a coaching staff that’s notorious for not clearly defining the quarterback situation. Texas Tech transfer Baker Mayfield is apples to Knight’s oranges style, and Cody Thomas will throw his hat into the ring along with dark-horse candidate Justice Hansen. Don’t take anything away from spring ball – the job is up in the air until the opening snap at Akron.
