When: Saturday, Oct. 1 – 2:30 p.m. ET
Where: Fred C. Yager Stadium, Oxford, Ohio.
TV Broadcast: ESPN3
The most impressive game Ohio played so far was its loss to Tennessee, when it entered the fourth quarter down only two points and lost 28-19. The 2-2 Bobcats have wins over Kansas and FCS foe Gardner-Webb by identical 37-21 scores. The scored 54 points in their opener, but Texas State scored 56. Needless to say it’s been an up-and-down season so far for Frank Solich’s crew.
Miami (OH) can’t quite relate since it doesn’t have any victories to look back on. The RedHawks fell to 0-4 with a 27-20 loss to Cincinnati last week, their third straight defeat of seven points or fewer. However, one of those game against Eastern Illinois of the FCS.
Greg Windham will be the best player on the field. He he’s thrown for 933 yards and seven touchdown passes while also being the Bobcats’ leading rusher averaging 6.5 yards per carry. Windham has been so elusive that he was sacked for the first time last week against Gardner-Webb.
Billy Bahl might just be the second-best player on the field Saturday. He’s thrown eight touchdowns to only two interceptions, but he’s been sacked 16 times because the offensive line has had it’s issues. Bahl has been credited with gaining 120 yards rushing, but 103 of them have been negated by sacks.
Offense: Ohio – Windham wins the quarterback battle.
Defense: Even – The Bobcats and RedHawks each have forced eight turnovers.
Special Teams: Ohio – Louie Zervos has converted 13 of 15 field-goal attempts.
Coaching: Ohio – Solich’s experience will win out in this in-state battle.
Intangibles: Ohio – The Bobcats have won nine of the last 10 meetings.
Windham vs. Miami’s defense
Windham has been able to get it done through the air and on the ground, but the RedHawks are going to pose a test. They’ve been able to force quarterbacks into bad decisions, so Windham will need to keep his calm.
Spread: Ohio -2.5
Over/Under: 52
Windham and Bahl have an entertaining back-and-forth battle, but Windham gets the best of it with a late touchdown run to give Ohio the win.
Ohio vs. Miami (OH) final score prediction: Ohio 28, Miami (OH) 24
