Ohio vs. Bowling Green Game Preview

Ohio and Bowling Green battle it out in a vital MAC East showdown.

    November 4, 2015

Buffalo might have a little something to say about it after beating Ohio (5-3), and Kent State is still alive, but this might be the game for the MAC East title. Bowling Green (6-2) is unbeaten in conference play, but it still has to go to Western Michigan and host Toledo. The Bobcats still have to face Northern Illinois on the road and gets Kent State and Ball State at home – they likely need to win out to take the division. Why Ohio Will Win

The firepower is there to keep up the pace. The pass defense has only allowed six touchdown passes on the season – three of them were to Western Michigan – but the Bobcats haven’t exactly had to deal with Big 12-like offenses so far. They’ll get bombed on, but Derrius Vick is coming off a 323-yard passing game in the loss to Buffalo, and he’s turning into a whale of a bomber completing 64% of his throws on the year with just six picks. The air show will work, but …

    Why Bowling Green Will Win

Three of Vick’s picks came last week against Buffalo. This is a good Ohio passing game and the big yards will be there, but the team just doesn’t score enough. The offense put up more than 24 points in just three games – Idaho, SE Louisiana and Miami University. You and the neighbors could hang 35 up on those three. Bowling Green is an unstoppable scoring machine, and now the defense is starting to step up a bit allowing just ten points in the last two games. The teams that ripped up the Falcons? Tennessee and Memphis. Everyone else has sputtered a bit.

    What’s Going To Happen?

MAC Player of the Year To Be Matt Johnson continues to be amazing. College football’s hottest quarterback, the Bowling Green senior has thrown five touchdown passes in each of the last three games and hit the 400-yard mark in six of the eight games – going for over 320 in the other two. Ohio’s pass defense isn’t going to slow the machine down now. Enjoy the show.
