Ohio State will wear a special helmet sticker and have a moment of silence to honor the memory of former Buckeye Will Smith during its upcoming spring game. Smith was shot and killed during a traffic dispute on Saturday night in New Orleans.

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith posted the following picture of the sticker on his Twitter account.

According to the Associated Press, 28-year-old Cardell Hayes was arrested on Sunday on a charge of second-degree murder, and was held on $1 million bond. After Hayes’ vehicle rear-ended Smith’s, the two argued before Hayes shot Smith in the back and side. Smith’s wife, Racquel, was also shot and taken to the hospital where she was treated for a leg wound.

The late Smith was a four-year letterman at Ohio State. He helped lead the Buckeyes to the upset 2002 BCS National Championship over Miami and earned first-team All-American honors in 2003.

Smith was drafted 18th overall by the New Orleans Saints, where he spent his entire career, one that included a Super Bowl title in 2010 and a Pro Bowl in 2006. During his 10-year NFL career, Smith recorded 457 tackles and 67.5 sacks.

The Ohio State spring game is Saturday, April 16, at 1:30 p.m. EST in Ohio Stadium.
