Ohio State quarterback Tate Martell was honored as the Maxwell Club’s national player of the year. The Class of 2017 product has enrolled in Columbus early.

Ohio State quarterback Tate Martell has a bright future at Ohio State, and he began his Buckeyes career early by enrolling in school before many of his freshman teammates.

While the Class of 2017 product is already getting acclimated to the college environment, he is still picking up accolades for his work on the field in high school.

The former Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) star signal-caller was honored on Friday after being selected as the Maxwell Football Club’s National High School Player of the Year. The finalists were Martell, RB Cam Akers, RB Najee Harris, DB Darnay Holmes, LB Dylan Moses and DL Jaelan Phillips.

Martell, named the American Family Insurance ALL-USA Offensive Player of the Year, led his high school powerhouse to a third consecutive Super 25 championship, putting together a career record of 45-0 as a starter with 113 career touchdown passes. The early enrollee with the Buckeyes threw for 2,362 yards with 41 touchdowns and one interception as a senior. He also ran for 1,257 yards and 21 scores. Ridiculous numbers for the Army All-American.

The Maxwell Football Club has honored players at all levels since 1935, and the organization’s annual gala in Atlantic City included honorees from high school, college and pro football.

Fans will get a chance to see Martell in action when the Buckeyes hold their spring game on April 15. Of course, veteran J.T. Barrett will be the starting signal-caller in 2017 as the Buckeyes look to make great strides under new OC Kevin Wilson.
