Urban Meyer is seeking to add a spark to Ohio State’s offense and has hired former Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson as the Buckeyes’ offensive coordinator.

Urban Meyer hadn’t experienced being shut out as a head coach before Ohio State’s 31-0 loss to Clemson in the College Football Playoff.

He proclaimed after the embarrassing defeat that it won’t happen again. And his latest hire proves he means it.

Urban Meyer has brought in former Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson to be the Buckeyes’ offensive coordinator in a major move being lauded by many around the country. Speculation over Wilson’s hire began Tuesday night a week ago.

Clemson exposed the Buckeyes’ offensive issues in the Fiesta Bowl, something that both shocked and angered Meyer, and it warranted a shakeup. Co-offensive coordinator Tim Beck left to join former Ohio State OC Tom Herman at Texas last week, but Beck wasn’t in charge of play-calling.

That duty was left to Ed Warriner, who now is in an odd position. Ari Wasserman of Cleveland.com reported Warriner will remain on the Buckeyes’ staff next season, but that he might not be as involved in the offense.

One thing is for certain – Wilson will be calling the plays. Meyer long has spoken highly of Wilson going back to the days when Meyer was at Bowling Green and Wilson was Northwestern’s OC. Wilson also grew his reputation as offensive coordinator for Miami (OH) and Oklahoma before being hired as Indiana’s head coach in 2011.

Wilson’s Hoosier teams reached bowl games in each of the last two seasons, but he mutually agreed to part ways with the program Dec. 1 due to philosophical differences with athletic director Fred Glass.

Wilson will have the chance to work with two-time Big Ten Quarterback of the Year J.T. Barrett and budding star Mike Weber.
