March 17, 2017Ohio State and FSU are battling for No. 1 defensive tackle Taron Vincent’s commitment. Vincent will visit Ohio State in late March before making his decision.
The recruitment of the nation’s No. 1 defensive tackle Taron Vincent has turned into nothing short of a heavyweight battle. In the southeast corner, wearing garnett and gold trunks, are the Florida State Seminoles. In the midwest corner, wearing scarlet and grey trunks, are the Ohio State Buckeyes. There will be no touching of gloves, just some good ol’ fashioned salesmanship.
Vincent, who visited Tallahassee in February for FSU’s junior day, will be taking a trip with his parent to Columbus either March 29 or 30 during his spring break. Time for Urban Meyer, one of the game’s great recruiters, to show how good of a closer he is, because according to Vincent he will commit “probably a week or so after” the trip.
As of right now, it’s neck and neck between Meyer and FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher.
Vincent, a 5-star DT and the No. 7 overall player in the CI 25 2018 recruiting rankings, attends the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. It’s a school with whom both FSU and Ohio State are very familiar. This past recruiting cycle, the Buckeyes signed 4-star defensive backs Isaiah Pryor and Marcus Williamson from IMG. The Seminoles themselves inked two players out of IMG: 5-star defensive end Joshua Kaindoh and 4-star tight end Tre McKitty.
Ohio State appears to have the last crack at Vincent, and as he told Campus Insiders earlier this month, a lot hinges on this final impression.
“It depends on how this visit goes,” Vincent said of his commitment. “They [Ohio State and FSU] are pretty even right now.”
