Ohio State football recruiting update as of October 23, 2016.

Well, Saturday night could have gone much better than it did. Ohio State fell on the road to Penn State, 24-21. However, on the bright side, the Buckeyes did regain their hold of the No. 1 spot in the 2017 recruiting class rankings.

They slid back up from No. 2 after Oklahoma lost a commitment from 4-star wide receiver Jalen Reagor, who flipped to TCU.

As for current Ohio State commits, the Buckeyes were already worried over the health of 5-star wide receiver Trevon Grimes, who’s recovering from a torn ACL. But now 4-star wide receiver Tyjon Lindsey has torn his meniscus in his right knee. Both Grimes and Lindsey should be healthy by the time the 2017 season starts, and both are expected to contribute right away.

Two more Ohio State commits are planning visits to Columbus for the Buckeyes’ home game versus Northwestern this upcoming weekend. Five-star offensive guard Wyatt Davis and 4-star defensive tackle Haskell Garrett are both planning on making the trip. Five-star linebacker Anthony Hines is also expected to be on campus.

Hines recently took an official visit to Florida and spent another official visit at UCLA this past weekend. He enjoyed his time with the Gators and Bruins, but the real competition for Ohio State seems to be Oklahoma and Texas A&M. A great time in Columbus and a bounce-back win over Pat Fitzgerald’s Wildcats can help give the Buckeyes some momentum in Hines’ recruitment.
