January 7, 2017Ohio State football recruiting update as of January 7, 2017. Urban Meyer’s Buckeyes landed yet another 5-star commit in the cycle.
Urban Meyer’s staff is off to a great start in the new year, as it landed yet another blue-chip prospect.
On Saturday, 5-star athlete Jeffrey Okudah chose to commit to Ohio State over Florida State and Oklahoma. Now, the Buckeyes have seven 5-star recruits pledged in their 2017 recruiting class.
With the addition of Okudah, Ohio State slid up from No. 5 to No. 4 in the recruiting class rankings, passing Oklahoma in the process.
However, the Buckeyes did miss out on another 5-star target this weekend. Darnay Holmes, the No. 1 cornerback and No. 9 overall player in the country, committed to UCLA instead of Ohio State despite the Buckeyes appearing to have been the favorite.
Meyer’s staff will have a chance to make it eight 5-star commits if it can somehow lure Marvin Wilson, the No. 1 defensive tackle and No. 11 overall player, to Columbus. The Buckeyes are competing with Florida State, LSU and Oklahoma for his commitment.
