Ohio State football recruiting update as of Dec. 21, 2015. The Buckeyes are looking to hold onto their No. 1 class ranking.
December 22, 2015Urban Meyer is once again in the hunt for the No. 1 recruiting class — even if his Ohio State Buckeyes aren’t in a position to defend their national title from a year ago.
With Braxton Miller, Cardale Jones and J.T. Barrett presumably all taking their talents to the NFL after this season, Ohio State would like to add a quarterback to its 2016 class. The Buckeyes had one in 4-star quarterback Tristen Wallace, but he flipped his commitment to Oregon about a week ago.
Now, the focus has turned to 4-star Maryland commit Dwayne Haskins, from Potomac, Md. He’s ranked as the No. 3 pro-style quarterback and No. 28 overall recruit, according to 247Sports. But Ohio State isn’t alone in that chase. Aside from the Terrapins trying to hang onto Haskins, the Florida Gators are also in the mix.
The Buckeyes are trying to reach into the Florida pipeline, too, by going after 4-star wide receiver Binjimen Victor. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla. prospect is the No. 2 wide receiver. Victor seems to be narrowing in on a decision between Ohio State and Florida, and it should come down to the wire.
The No. 1 recruit in the nation, Rashan Gary, is also high on Meyer’s list. The Buckeyes appeared to be sliding out of contention until Meyer put new defensive coordinator Greg Schiano on Gary. He’s still considered a heavy Michigan lean, but never count Meyer’s staff out.
Below is an overview of where Ohio State stands on the recruiting front with two weeks left in December. Star ratings are based off of 247Sports Composite.
