    Why You Need To Care

Now that Notre Dame has survived the tricky Pennsylvania portion of its schedule, beating Temple and Pitt on consecutive weekends, it’s almost certain to be 10-1 heading into the Nov. 28 trip to Stanford. And as long as the Irish remain focused on Wake Forest and Boston College, that finale with the Cardinal could decide which one-loss team remains in the playoff hunt. The Demon Deacons have sort of travelled sideways in Dave Clawson’s second year in Winston-Salem. Sure, there have been baby steps, but Wake will be little more than potential spoilers in upcoming games with ND, Clemson and Duke.

    Why Wake Forest Will Win

After playing physical opponents on back-to-back weekends, the Irish will be a little tender in Week 11. They’ll also have a difficult time getting fired up to play one of the ACC’s worst teams. The Deacons, conversely, are coming off a bye week. And their defense, which is sound in the front seven, could face a Notre Dame offense that might be without top back C.J. Prosise.

    Why Notre Dame Will Win

Superior talent at every unit of the depth chart. The Irish are better than Wake Forest—everywhere—and there’ll be no lack of motivation for a team so close to the top four. QB DeShone Kizer and WR Will Fuller continue to be prolific, and who on that erratic Deacon offense is going to neutralize LB Jaylon Smith, DT Sheldon Day and CB KeiVarae Russell? Against eight FBS opponents, Wake has scored at least 20 points just one time.

    Player Who Matters

If Prosise is scratched because of last week’s head injury, Notre Dame will once again turn to rookie Josh Adams, who looked very capable last Saturday at Heinz Field. He’s averaging 7.3 yards per carry on the year, and ripped Pitt for 147 yards on 20 carries. The Irish need Prosise down the road, but the way Adams is running, there’s no reason to rush No. 20 back onto the field.

    What’s Going To Happen?

The Irish will have too much firepower for a visitor that’s laboring to move the chains and reach the end zone. While Wake Forest will scrap and claw on defense, it’ll eventually buckle to Notre Dame’s dominance at the line of scrimmage and its emerging star behind center. ND will jump out to an early lead that it never relinquishes.
