    Why You Need To Care

The venue will take center stage in this latest chapter of the Shamrock Series, as Fenway Park hosts the 25th meeting between Notre Dame and Boston College.

The Irish are two wins away from finishing the regular season 11-1, which they hope will be enough to land one of the four College Football Playoff openings. And with that in mind, style points will matter in upcoming games with BC and Stanford. For the Eagles, this is their proverbial bowl game, having already been eliminated from postseason contention. It’s been an unusually rocky year for injury-riddled Boston College, which last won a game on Sept. 26.

    Why Boston College Will Win

Has any unit in the country deserved a better fate than the Eagle defense? Despite getting absolutely no support from the other side of the ball, Boston College still leads the nation in total D, run defense and yards per play. The Eagles will frustrate the Irish at the point of attack with a rock-solid front seven bolstered by linebackers Steven Daniels, Matt Milano and Connor Strachan and linemen Harold Landry, Mehdi Abdesmad and Connor Wujciak.

    Why Notre Dame Will Win

In eight contests with FBS opponents, Boston College is averaging only nine points per game. Obviously, that won’t cut it against QB DeShone Kizer, WR Will Fuller and RB C.J. Prosise, who’s expected to return from injury. The Eagles have been necrotic with the ball, lacking the playmakers and the blockers to move the sticks with any consistency. Barring a defensive or special teams score, BC will struggle to reach double-digits against the deep and talent-rich Irish defense.

    Player Who Matters

It’s been as tough to throw on Boston College this year as it is to run on the team, aided by the pressure being applied up front. The Eagles have yielded just six touchdown passes all year, so Fuller has his work cut out for him. However, starting CB Kamrin Moore was lost for the year two weeks ago, so FS Justin Simmons must provide even more support than usual from centerfield.

    What’s Going To Happen?

Fenway Park. Notre Dame in town. Boston College will be fired up and loose for Saturday night’s game. But while the defense will keep the Eagles competitive for a half, that nagging inability to score points will prevent an upset. It won’t be easy, but the Irish will pop a few plays with Kizer and the backs, salting away win No. 10 as soon as the lead reaches double-digits.
