The Northern Illinois Huskies will play host to the Ohio Bobcats for some Tuesday night MACtion with conference championship game implications.

A win for the Huskies (8-3, 6-1 MAC) Tuesday night would secure the MAC West to advance to their sixth straight conference title game. Last time out, Northern Illinois won their sixth consecutive game — a 27-19 final over Western Michigan. The Huskies trailed 19-14 in the fourth quarter, but scored a pair of touchdowns to take the lead and put the game out of reach for the victory. Northern Illinois’ rushing attack put up 289 yards on Western Michigan, led by Jordan Huff (8 car, 159 yards, TD) and Joel Bouagnon (21 car, 70 yards, TD). The Huskies’ receiving corps also put forth a solid performance as Kenny Golladay and Aregeros Turner each hauled in a touchdown pass from Ryan Graham. The Northern Illinois defense bent but didn’t break, allowing the Broncos to pass for 353 yards, but the unit forced two turnovers in addition to holding Western Michigan scoreless in the fourth quarter.

The Bobcats (7-4, 4-3 MAC) are winners of two straight and looking to play spoiler to keep the Huskies out of the MAC title game. Ohio made easy work of the Ball State Cardinals last week as they got out to a 28-3 lead at one point in the first half and never looked back. The Bobcats offense exploded with huge performances from JD Sprague (321 total yards, 3 TD), A.J. Ouellette (22 car, 121 yards, 2 TD) and Jordan Reid (4 rec, 112 yards, 2 TD). For Ouellette, his 121 yards was his first 100-yard rushing game of the season and the most by any Ohio running back this season. By the night’s end, Ohio had recorded 607 total yards of offense, its highest output in 18 years.

Tuesday night’s meeting will be the 21st between Northern Illinois and Ohio. The Huskies lead the series by a slim, 11-9 count and have won two consecutive meetings between the schools.
