North Carolina vs. Duke prediction, online live stream and TV broadcast information for Saturday's regular season finale between the Tar Heels and Blue Devils.
March 4, 2016The No. 8 North Carolina Tar Heels will travel into enemy territory as they renew their rivalry with the No. 17 Duke Blue Devils Saturday in Durham, N.C.
The Tar Heels (24-6, 13-4 ACC) currently share the top spot in the ACC with Miami and will need the Hurricanes to lose to Virginia Tech to claim the regular season title outright. North Carolina rebounded from its loss to Virginia last week by beating the Syracuse Orange, 75-70, on Monday night. The Heels led for most of this one, but ‘Cuse hung around and got within one point with 2:24 left in the game. North Carolina got back-to-back buckets from Isaiah Hicks and Brice Johnson to ultimately put the game on ice. The Heels adjusted the lineup rotations for senior day, so they received a whopping 53 points from their “bench”, compared to just 16 for Syracuse. Brice Johnson put up his fourth double-double in the last five games with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Blue Devils (22-8, 11-6 ACC) have split their last four games since knocking off the Heels in the last meeting. Duke is looking to make it back-to-back wins heading into the ACC Tournament after beating Wake Forest, 79-71, Tuesday. In a close game throughout, the Demon Deacons fought tooth and nail, and it took Duke until the 1:40 mark to begin to pull away. Chase Jeter would make 1-of-2 free throws, followed by Grayson Allen who made both of his free throws to put the Dukies up by eight. That prevented an upset bid from Wake Forest. It wasn’t a banner night for the Blue Devils shooting the ball (36.5 percent), but Duke was plus-10 in turnovers and attempted 21 more free throws than Wake Forest. Allen led the Devils with a game-high 30 points, canning 14-of-19 free throw attempts.
The rematch Saturday between North Carolina and Duke is the 242nd meeting in the heated rivalry, with the Heels leading the series 133-108. UNC is looking to avenge its 74-73 loss at home to Duke back on Feb. 17.
Below is everything you need to know about the matchup, including the North Carolina vs. Duke prediction, online live stream and TV broadcast info, and game notes.
Have the Tar Heels learned from the last time they faced the Blue Devils? That question will soon be answered.
North Carolina knows it needs to take advantage of the surplus of talent it has down low with Brice Johnson — keep feeding him. It also knows it needs to limit any damage inflicted by Grayson Allen and Brandon Ingram. But most importantly, North Carolina cannot let Duke hang around. The Blue Devils lack depth and tend to look exhausted near the end of games, but they’re one of the most resilient teams in America. North Carolina will exact its revenge, but Duke won’t make it easy.
