    Why You Need To Care

No. 9 North Carolina is finally back. Marcus Paige is healthy-ish. He helped lead the Tar Heels to a win against the Maryland Terrapins on Tuesday, and Paige certainly had a game with 20 points and five assists.

Roy Williams’ team improved to 6-1 on the season with that win. It’s averaging 82.4 points per game and giving up just 68.7 points per game. The Tar Heels appear to have bounced back quite nicely after dropping that game on the road against Northern Iowa two weeks ago.

Davidson does have something to hang over North Carolina’s head, and that’s a perfect record. The Wildcats improved to 5-0 after a 109-74 stomping of Charlotte on the 49ers’ home court.

The Wildcats are scoring 88.2 points per game while giving up 76.2 points. This one is going to be a lot of fun in a “Tobacco Road” showdown.

    Why North Carolina Will Win

The Tar Heels are going to lean on Paige once again. Although, they don’t have to lean on him as hard as they did against Maryland. Paige showed he can produce for himself and create open looks for others against the Terps. He’ll have to do that again here. But Paige’s real challenge will be limiting Davidson’s Jack Gibbs, who’s averaging 26 points per game. Other than that, North Carolina has to control the boards with Brice Johnson and Kennedy Meeks and win the turnover battle.

    Why Davidson Will Win

Obviously, Gibbs has to go off for a big game. You can’t just walk into the Dean E. Smith Center and expect to win if your leading scorer doesn’t have the game of his life. The Wildcats have also committed the fewest turnovers in the nation (40), and they’ll have to protect the ball against the Tar Heels, who have forced 94 turnovers this season. Jake Belford and Peyton Aldridge will have to come up big on the glass in this one. They’re combining for an average of 12.8 rebounds per game, and that won’t get it done against Johnson and Meeks — 17 rebounds per game combined.

    What’s Going To Happen?

North Carolina will get some trouble from Davidson in this one. Gibbs and Brian Sullivan will provide some scoring for the Wildcats, but Paige and company will shut that down. Meeks and Johnson will wreck on the boards, and Justin Jackson will pour in some additional scoring. North Carolina takes this one on its home court.
