Three-star cornerback Noah Daniels decommitted from the Baylor football program on Sunday. His decision leaves the Bears’ 2017 class perilously thin.

Baylor’s already thin recruiting class has suffered another loss. On Sunday, 3-star cornerback Noah Daniels decommitted from the Bears program.

In a statement released on Twitter, Daniels thanked the university and cited his strong relationship with cornerbacks coach Carlton Buckels as a reason for committing in late July. However, after deep consideration the League City, Texas native has decided to reopen his recruitment.

“I want to thank Baylor university for offering me a scholarship to extend my football career and education, i have a lot of love for Baylor University and i have a great relationship with coach buckels and i believe Baylor is a very good school athletically and academically, but I believe its best for me to further my career elsewhere, i wish the best of luck to Baylor and i hope to see them have much success in the future please understand this was not a easy decision, and my next commitment will be 110% [sic]”

Daniels is being targeted by several of Baylor’s conference rivals, including TCU, whom he is now favored to sign with. Oklahoma could make a late push, too, as Daniels will take an official visit to Norman this coming weekend for Bedlam – a game that happens to be for the Big 12 title.

The decommitment now leaves Baylor with only one recruit in the 2017 cycle, 3-star safety Jalen Pitre. A reeling recruiting class might expedite Baylor’s decision on its coaching future. Jim Grobe has done a yeoman’s job steadying the program, but was not expected to be a viable longterm option. Reports have tabbed SMU head coach Chad Morris as the favorite to take over for Grobe.
