Nick Saban issued a statement on Steve Sarkisian's decision to leave Tuscaloosa for Atlanta. Sarkisian's stint as the Tide's OC was very brief.
February 7, 2017Nick Saban issued a statement on Steve Sarkisian’s decision to leave Tuscaloosa for Atlanta.
Steve Sarkisian didn’t last long as Alabama’s offensive coordinator. On Tuesday, he opted to depart to the NFL where he’ll become the Atlanta Falcons’ new OC following Kyle Shanahan’s departure.
Nick Saban, who hired Sarkisian in an analyst role after his fallout with USC, released the following statement on Tuesday after the news broke.
“We appreciate all Coach Sarkisian did for our program during his time here. He is an outstanding coach, and we wish him the best in his new role as Atlanta’s offensive coordinator. As always, when we have an opening on our staff, we will use it as an opportunity to go out and hire the best coach available.”
Reported disagreements between Sarkisian and Saban in “system philosophy” following the College Football Playoff national championship game helped lead to the split.
Saban and the Tide will now turn their attention to finding a replacement for Sarkisian, who spent just one game as Alabama’s offensive coordinator. He was named the OC in mid-December.
